Ottawa is the perfect showcase for Canadian history and culture and a leading center for the many industry sectors. It offers a wealth of things to do, fine dining, and some exquisite architecture. Those of us from New York State love to visit whenever we can and we also enjoy having our neighbors drop in to learn about our state, it’s wine regions and products.

New York wines can be found in the Liquor Control Board of Ontario stores and in several restaurants as well as being available for order from the agents that represent the products.
Being the capital of a highly diverse nation and located on the border of Quebec means that there is one thing Ottawa really knows about — great food. We were recently in town for a lovely dinner at a little place called the Pelican Grill and the food was superb — and it matched wonderfully with our New York wines. The soup was poached oysters in a fish-miso stock paired with a Dr. Konstantin Frank Dry Riesling; next came a smoked trout “brandade” which worked beautifully with a Fox Run Vineyards Reserve chardonnay that was showing great smoky flavors. The main course of cedar-planked salmon with roasted winter vegetables and saffron rice suited the Lakewood Pinot Noir perfectly and the Baldwin Strawberry wine with the chocolate mousse and strawberry coulis pleased everyone.
